What The Rest Of The World Is Doing While I'm Sitting In Front Of My Computer

Here in New York, the weather has taken a beautiful turn: The sun is shining and, out my window, I can see people smiling and laughing while they walk down the street. “Out my window”? Yup – because I’ve been busy sitting at my desk, churning out AppleScripts for all you good Mac people.1

So before I join the frolicking masses, I thought I’d share a few of the latest updates and additions to the Veritrope.com Code Library. Hope you enjoy them and be sure to check back here when you take a break from playing in the spring sunshine. Who knows… there may be some more goodies2 coming soon!:

Delicious to Evernote AppleScript Lets You Keep Tags and Dates Intact While Importing!

As has been widely reported today, Yahoo is discontinuing the Delicious social bookmarking service. (UPDATE: Delicious now says that service will continue while they look for someone to buy them.)

I’ll leave the in-depth postmortem to others — but I will point out that there are any number of good options to replace Delicious (the most obvious being Pinboard).

Mac users can also import their links into many popular note-taking apps via AppleScript, and I wanted to mention that I’m hosting one such script project here:

Delicious to Evernote AppleScript (Keeping Tags and Dates)

It’s still an early version, but it does offer the added benefit of allowing you to keep your tags and date information. Give it a try — and feel free to pitch in with any improvements if you think of any (especially if you know a little AppleScript!)

Don’t use Evernote? It’s free and easy to try — but AppleScript also makes it easy to adapt the code to whatever app you’re using! And if you do, don’t forget to share it with your fellow Mac users here in our Code Library!

Teaching An Old AppleScript Some New Tricks!

Here’s a quick bit of Script-fu for all you Evernote users:

A user calling him/herself “gatekeeper” (probably a guy, but you can never rule out the possibility of a Sigourney Weaver / Ghostbusters variety of Gatekeeper) posted a message on the Evernote forum asking if there was “a way to generate in to a text file only the urls from all my snaps ?

I can see how this could be useful in certain circumstances — especially for those people who use Evernote as a sort of private delicious.com substitute (in other words, as a sort of anti-social bookmarking service).

I had published a script here a while back that saved a list of Note Titles as a text file
Could that be easily adapted to do the job here?
(Spoiler Alert: Yes, it can.)
