The Public Beta for NetNewsWire 3.2 was released yesterday and, all over the world, NNW’s devoted users (myself included) are fervently clicking the download link — eager to test out the new syncing with Google Reader feature!

However, one downside to testing the beta affects people who use the Clippings feature. Since Google Reader doesn’t exactly provide a direct place to map a clipping folder to, NNW developer Brent Simmons has hidden away the Clipping folders until he figures out what the hell to do with them (Don’t worry — there’s a HTML backup in [home folder]/Library/Application Support/NetNewsWire/ExportedClippings/) UPDATE — The new 3.2B13 release turns the clippings back on (albeit un-synched).

But what if you want to export them for use outside of NNW (or as a backup to it)? Here are a couple of options…….

Facebook access has been slow (or times out) for many people since the weekend… What’s the story?

I’m a “Blame Time-Warner First!” kind of guy whenever I am having any trouble with the internet (with plenty of reasons for doing so). So when I started having difficulty connecting to Facebook a few days ago, I just assumed it was TWC again.

But doing a Twitter search for “Facebook Slow” revealed that it might be a bigger problem — lots of people can’t connect or are getting such slow page load times that Facebook is almost unusable!

It seems that Facebook is taking the same approach as I do in laying blame for the unusably slow response people have been getting:
Facebook slow

What’s the real story? Hopefully, we’ll find out soon! Until then, report your slow Facebook connection here — and be sure to tell them who your internet provider is.

UPDATE — Here’s something you can try that might help until the problem is fixed:
Try to connect using the secure server for Facebook by putting the letter “s” after “http” (https://facebook.com) in the address bar! It’s working for me, but occasionally throws me back to the non-secure server.

For Mac users, two of my favorite programs to help form the backbone of a “paperless life” are Evernote and DEVONthink — and these AppleScripts connect them together!

Over the years, I’ve discovered one thing that almost all of my clients have had in common: They have too much paper in their lives and they desperately want to get rid of as much of it as possible!

People are searching for a workable “Digital File Cabinet” solution. Paper, emails, items clipped from websites — these days, they all need to be in the same place when you look for them (and preferably with the same feeling of solidity that you get from sticking something in a drawer).

Going paperless certainly isn’t without its own pitfalls, but few things are more professionally satisfying to me than seeing a palpable look of relief on people’s faces as we shrink their clutter down to the size of a disk drive.

Right now for Mac users, two of my favorite programs to help tame piles of paper are Evernote and DEVONthink Pro.
